Sold to someone in Missouri in the spring of 2006 for $3,700.
The car was originally a “Black Pearl” edition; meaning that it was very rare considering the option ran
$150 in 1978. But since the car had already been repainted white I didn’t really care about the originality,
so I chose to have it painted “Super Red.” Phillip did the paint job in the garage and it turned out
extremely well. The car was gorgeous. The crash bumpers, door moldings, trim pieces, and badges were
removed. The engine was kept relatively stock with the exception of a K&N air filter. The shifter had
custom made stainless steel bushings for short and tight throws. The suspension was lowered with Tokico
Illumina 5 way adjustable struts. The wheels were upgraded to 17X7s with Kumho ecsta supra tires. The
wheel adaptors were custom made specifically for these rims by a CNC machine shop, and black anodized
for long life. The factory studs were replaced by correct length ARP wheel studs for the safest possible
mounting of the wheels. It also had larger Toyota 4X4 four piston calipers painted to match the exterior
color.
This car became TTR-009 on Sunday September 21, 2003. Paul spotted the car for sale on the street
and it soon became my first car. The car was nearly factory stock with 168,476 miles, and proved to be a
reliable and fun first car for only $1,800. On a very strict budget I was able to transform the car from a
humble and homely 280Z into an arrogant and attention grabbing sports car. The car was easily the most
recognizable at University High, and everyone knew the sound of the ruckus exhaust as “Peter’s Car” well
before it came into sight. The car drew tons of attention even when it was not drifting through intersections
and weaving through traffic. It was eventually was hit by a Toyota Rav4 ruining the esthetics from certain
angles.
