This is my current daily driver and I have no intentions of getting rid of this car any time soon. Future
mods will include a double bin conversion for a nav/DVD/stereo system, a heads/cam package, and an
upgraded clutch.
When I bought it, it had Halltech's discontinued carbon fiber, "hydro-lockn' " CAI on it, as well as a set of
after market C6Z06 style wheels. I sold the wheels on Corvetteforum and got enough money to buy a set
of C5Z06 style aftermarket wheels in black with a polished lip including shipping. I lowered the car about
.5" on the stock bolts. I replaced the shifter, knob, and boot with the stock C6 corvette units. I replaced
the brake pads with Hawk HP race pads. I installed a set of Texas Speed and Performance long tube
headers and X-pipe. This included deleting the cats and the AIR system. I also removed the AIR pump
and tubing. Total wieght saving for exhaust swap was around 25 lbs. Power was increased by 20hp. An
Arizona Speed and Marine harness bar has been installed to be used as a camera mount. And a custom,
track oriented, four wheel alignment has been performed.
I found this car on AutoTrader.com in July of 2006 for $20,000. The car was in Carlsbad, CA (between
L.A. and San Diego) and had 99,000 miles on it. After a short talk with the owner over the phone I
committed to buy it at asking price because I was afraid if I didn't, somebody else would. I flew out and
drove the car home myself. For a car of it's mileage, it was in great shape. Compared to what I was
expecting, the power was a bit disappointing, but the handling and brakes were well beyond expectations.
In December 2006 I took the car up the Firebird Raceway and ran on a road course for the first time.
Despite my lack of real world experience; fake world experience, i.e. Grand Turismo, DOES help. The car
was pretty dominant and has been my main hobby and car focus ever since. A combination of maturing
and the fact that this car has nothing to prove and is too fast to be used to full potential on the street, has
severely curtailed street racing activity. 4-0 is it's street record with wins over a WRX, a CTS-V, an EVO IX,
and a Tundra. It is also currently undefeated excluding "red light" losses at the drag strip with around 25
wins over two Import and Street legal nights. It currently averages 26mpg and has 125,000 miles on it.
