I resold the car on ebay to someone in Montana taking about $1000 loss.  Not too bad considering what I
learned.
Besides the red paint the car was factory stock which is what made it so valuable.  It did have dealer
installed A/C, but other than that, no modifications.  Despite its mechanical shortcomings the car was truly
beautiful.  The interior was in fantastic condition and when it was running and on the road, it looked great.
It was one of those cars that everyone thinks is awesome except for the owner.
The idea behind this car was to have a beautiful vintage sports car to go on dates in.  I faced the fact that
TTR-012 didn’t really cut it in the sex appeal department so I wanted something a little nicer.  Coming from
owning my 280Z TTR-009, I had always looked up to the 240Zs as they were much more desirable.  The
desirability came from the smaller, much better looking bumpers, the rarity, and the prestige of owning one
of the most influential sports cars ever.  This particular car did not meet my expectations.  I bought the car
on ebay in November 2006.  I flew out to pick the car up in Orange County California after a long night of
partying and no sleep.  When I took possession of the car I realized that it was very different from my
280Z.  Despite the fact that the car looked to be in fantastic condition the age of the car really showed in
other ways.  The seat belts were not retracting; you had to manually adjust them every time you got in the
car.  The shoulder strap was optional.  It would attach to the lap belt if you choose, but again not
retracting.  The steering wheel was wooden and thin making turning difficult an imprecise. The brakes did
a horrible job of slowing the car down.  It was a four speed car so interstate driving was not fun.  So here I
was trying to make my way home from California, without directions, extremely tired, in a car that I had paid
$8,725 for, that ended up being far less than I had expected.  The gas gauge read anything except for
whatever was actually in the tank so I stopped 7 times for gas to make sure that I wouldn’t run out.  When I
filled up the first time I saw the gas tank leaked gas, which did not help the car’s already poor gas mileage.
Once I was home and Paul was able to really look at the car we found out that contrary to the ebay
description the car was rusted.  It had paint bubbles on the lower part of the fenders and inside the rear
hatch.  When I would wash the car the water run-off would stain the concrete because it was full of rust.
The lights were extremely dim and yellow and when I turned them on the engine would stumble and choke.
Sometimes I would have to drive at night with no lights at all just so I could make it home.  I would have to
charge the battery every night so that I would be able to start the car in the morning and even then it
sometimes took 45 minutes to get it going in the cold.  I would have been willing to fix this problem if the car
wasn’t rusted.  Rust was something I wanted no part of trying to fix.  I decided to get rid of the car only a
few months after I got it because after all, no girl wants to ride in a rusted out car with no lights.  So much
for reliving my high school days in my freshman year of college.
